Types of lymphoma:

There are two main types of lymphoma: Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Within these, there are many subtypes.

Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (HL)

Hodgkin’s lymphoma is less common among patients and is characterized by the presence of a special Reed-Sternberg cell. A Reed-Sternberg cell does not have the protective mechanism, but it is large in size. When it starts multiplying in an abnormal manner, it may form a tumor that attracts the inflammatory cells within a lymph node. It accounts for no more than 10 percent of the total lymphomas reported and recorded in a year.

Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL)

A large group of lymphatic cancer besides Hodgkin’s lymphoma come in the category of non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Most of the non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas originate in the B-lymphocytes; therefore, it is also referred as B-cell lymphoma.NHL is characterized by an abnormal growth of the lymphocytes. The abnormal cells start duplicating itself and do not die when they should. They do not protect the body against the infections or viruses. They start accumulating and form a mass of tissue resulting in the growth of the tumor.

• Swelling in the lymph nodes of the armpit, neck, or groin
• Trouble in coughing
• Fatigue and unexplained weight loss
• Chest pain and difficulty in breathing
• Night sweats
• Feeling of fullness in the abdomen
• Itchy skin and fever

Diagnose of lymphoma

Hodgkin lymphoma can only be diagnosed after a biopsy of an affected tissue. It is preferably done by removal (or excision) of a lymph node.Other tests can be suggested by a doctor as per the situation.
