Steps in Lasik surgery

Before The Surgery

Before the LASIK surgery, the patient visits the ophthalmologist for multiple eye examinations to determine their fitness to undergo laser surgery. The ophthalmologist asks to remove contact lenses in case of their use and wear glasses all day long for several days before starting the initial checkups.

Also, past and current eye and medical conditions are taken into account to understand the history of the patient.

During The Surgery

Lasik surgery usually takes about 30 minutes when performed on both eyes. The laser system comprises a microscope attached to a large device and a computer screen.

After the patient takes the position, the healthcare provider puts eye drops in the eyes to numb the area and clean around the eyes thoroughly.

The surgeon places a lid speculum that helps to keep the eyelids wide open throughout the procedure. Before making the flap, the surgeon places a suction device on the eyes to fix it.

During this period, pressure will be felt by the patient, and their vision may also appear dark for some time. Microkeratome helps to develop a coronal flap, and later it will be moved.

The laser device will be positioned on the eyes for 60 seconds. When an adequate amount of coronal tissues get ablated by the laser machine, the flap will again be placed in its original position. In the case of both eyes Lasik surgery, the procedure will be repeated for the second eye.
